What is the difference between an IoT SIM card and a traditional consumer SIM card?
IoT SIM cards differ from traditional consumer SIM cards mainly in application scenarios and functions. Traditional consumer SIM cards are generally used in personal mobile phones, supporting voice calls, SMS and data traffic. In contrast, IoT SIM cards are specially designed for IoT devices, focusing on data transmission, low power consumption and long service life. What sizes are IoT SIM cards available in?
There are three standard SIM card form factors: 2FF, 3FF and 4FF. Some SIM cards integrate all three sizes on one card, known as 3-in-1 SIM, while others come in a single fixed size.
2FF (Mini) – 25 mm x 15 mm – the original industry standard SIM form factor, applied to large wireless devices
3FF (Micro) – 15 mm x 12 mm – around half the size of mini-SIM, commonly used in mobile terminals
4FF (Nano) – 12.3 mm x 8.8 mm – a newer, smaller form factor to save space for compact wireless devices
